PET chief Axel Mossman is forced to make a painful confession to Niels Oxen and Margrethe Franck: for years, he has known that two powerful figures were tasked with rebuilding the secret Danehof network — a network the three of them had previously dismantled together. Yet, Mossman failed to take action.

Now, he asks Oxen and Franck to help determine whether Danehof still poses a threat. No sooner have they agreed than one of the Danehof leaders—a public prosecutor—apparently drowns in a Swedish lake.

At the same time, a young Chinese IT student is found hanged from his dormitory balcony, while another Chinese student—a young woman—flees in a desperate panic.

Only later do Oxen and Franck realize that the same dark forces may be at play in both cases.

As they doggedly search for clues, contract killers work ruthlessly to eliminate them.

INTERREGNUM is a standalone installment in the story of Niels Oxen, even though it is inspired by the Danehof Trilogy, which is formed by the first three volumes.
